Sustainability at STAUFF

Sustainability is no longer just a trend but a necessity. Companies worldwide are seeking ways to make their processes more environmentally friendly. The STAUFF Group has also committed to this goal. A central part of this strategy is the switch to more sustainable packaging solutions that are both ecological and functional.

With the STAUFF Green label, the company bundles activities that contribute to climate protection. STAUFF Green aligns with the long-term goal of the European Commission to reduce net emissions of climate-damaging greenhouse gases to zero by 2050. However, the concept goes beyond ecological sustainability and includes social and economic aspects:

  • Ecological Sustainability: Reduction of emissions and resource consumption.

  • Social Responsibility: Creation of fair working conditions and societal added value.

  • Economic Sustainability: Efficient use of resources to remain competitive in the long term.

The gradually introduced bag packaging is a prime example of this strategy. It combines innovative approaches in material selection with a focus on functionality and resource conservation. Thus, STAUFF makes an important contribution to the circular economy and significantly reduces waste.

The Switch to More Sustainable Packaging

The decision to switch to more sustainable packaging solutions marks an important milestone in STAUFF's sustainability strategy. The goal is to further optimize the use of resources, reduce waste, and actively promote environmental protection.

This process is closely linked to the principles of STAUFF Green and includes both innovative approaches in material selection and optimizations in production and logistics. The following chapters detail the most important steps and benefits of this switch:

  • How the bags are made from recycled materials and which technologies are used.

  • How the packaging is adapted to the different sizes and requirements of our components.

With these measures, STAUFF underscores its commitment to combining sustainable solutions with high functionality.

Production of the Bags

At the Plettenberg Ohle plant, STAUFF has revolutionized the packaging of pipe and hose clamps as well as the corresponding metal parts. Instead of conventional materials, bags made from recycled plastic are now used.

The production process is a significant step towards a circular economy:

  1. Raw Material Sourcing: Suitable internal waste as well as waste from suppliers is collected and processed.

  1. Processing: The waste is carefully sorted, cleaned, processed, and converted into granules.

  1. Production: The granules are used to produce the bag film.

  1. Finishing: The bags are printed with important information during production.

These bags are characterized by their milky-transparent color, robustness, and the high readability of the printed information.

Packaging by Component Size

Components manufactured in our plant are packaged in bags up to a certain size. Larger and heavier components are packed in boxes or on pallets. This tiered packaging system ensures efficiency and protection throughout the entire supply chain:

  • Smaller Components (e.g., plastic clamp bodies, cover plates, welding plates in the standard and heavy-duty series): Bag packaging.

  • Larger Components (e.g., plastic clamp bodies, cover plates, welding plates in the heavy-duty series): Boxes or pallets.

Advantages of Bag Packaging

The use of bags offers numerous advantages:

  • Efficient Labeling: Bags are labeled directly during production by printing. This reduces the risk of mislabeling.

  • Protection of Components: Bags protect against contamination, moisture, and loss during transport.

  • Clear Identification: Bags are printed with logos, material descriptions, material numbers, quantities, barcodes, and other information. This facilitates identification and reduces errors in goods receipt. The labeling is particularly convincing due to its high abrasion resistance.

  • Sustainability: The use of recycled materials conserves resources and supports the circular economy.

Sustainability in Product Development

Sustainability at STAUFF does not end with packaging. The products themselves are also being made more environmentally friendly. Today, waste from the production of plastic parts is already being used without compromising the functionality of the components.

Plastic remains a key material to achieve sustainability goals.
