Why surface protection is crucial in agricultural technology

Hydraulic systems in agricultural and forestry machinery are exposed to extreme environmental conditions: dirt, UV radiation, strong temperature changes and high humidity attack the surfaces of the components. Filter housings, which are often installed externally and have to withstand these stresses permanently, are particularly affected.

Inadequate surface protection can not only impair the appearance, but also jeopardise functionality. Corrosion, material fatigue and leaks are typical consequences. This is why STAUFF relies on a robust powder coating for high-pressure filters - as an alternative to classic wet painting.

Challenges in heavy-duty use

In agricultural technology, hydraulic systems are the backbone of many machine functions. Pressure filters play a key role here: they are installed directly behind the pump and protect sensitive components such as valves and cylinders from wear caused by solid particles in the oil.

The requirements are high:

  • Maximum system pressure: Filter housings and elements must withstand extreme loads.

  • Oil cleanliness class: pressurised filters ensure compliance with defined cleanliness levels.

  • Longevity: A failure can cause expensive repairs and machine downtime.

STAUFF meets these challenges with the SF series - a modular filter solution for demanding operating conditions.

The advantages of powder-coated filter housings

Powder coating offers numerous advantages over wet painting:

  • Resistance: The electrically charged powder is applied to the phosphatised surface and melted in the oven. The result: an even, robust protective layer.

  • Resistance: Tested according to DIN EN ISO 2409 (cross-cut test) - confirms high adhesion and durability.

  • Optics: Choice of coarse or fine texture, lasting high-quality impression.

  • Protective effect: Effective protection against UV radiation, corrosion and mechanical stress.

For OEMs, this means fewer complaints, a longer service life and a professional appearance of the machines.

The SF series at a glance

The SF series from STAUFF has been specially developed for mobile hydraulics. Product Manager Hartmut Reich explains:

"We recognised the trend towards lighter, more compact components early on and revised the series accordingly."

Highlights of the SF series:

  • Weight reduction: Up to 20 % lighter - e.g. 2 kg less for SF-090

  • Optimised flow conditions: No loss of filtration performance

  • Modular design: Filter head with selectable additional functions

Optional valves:

  • Bypass valve (active at 6 bar differential pressure)

  • Non-return valve (prevents empty running when changing elements)

  • Reversing valve (for alternating flow direction)

  • Multifunction valve (combination of all functions)

This flexibility makes the SF series particularly attractive for manufacturers of agricultural machinery.

Sustainability meets customisation

The powder coating is not only functional, but also environmentally friendly:

  • VOC-free: no liquid organic compounds

  • Hardly any waste: efficient process with minimal material loss

  • Individual colour selection: RAL, NCS or special colours - to match the machine design

  • White label options: Labelling and packaging according to customer requirements

Hartmut Reich emphasises:

"Visual appearance plays a role in our assessment of high quality that should not be underestimated."

A filter housing that still looks like new even after many years increases confidence in the entire machine.
