How do I replace the desiccant material when it is saturated?

Episode 13 of the STAUFF Miniseries "Is Your Hydraulic System Breathing Properly?"

Each processing component in the hydraulic system requires servicing. The same applies to the dehumidifier. Every now and then, the user has to replace the desiccant. STAUFF experts demonstrate how easy that is:

How do I replace the filters and desiccant in the breather?

Whether suction filters or pressure filters, main filters or bypass filters – the day will come when the filter elements in the hydraulic circuit have to be replaced. That also applies to dehumidifier and is particularly simple in this case. You do not even need a differential pressure indicator. A glance at the content of the transparent housing is enough: When the colour of the silica gel beads has faded from dark red to orange, the material has to be replaced.

For this event, users of the STAUFF SDB and SDBL should have a maintenance kit in stock. It contains the two round filter discs, the air filter element and – in airtight packaging – the required amount of desiccant. The replacement task takes only a few minutes.

Preparing ready-to-install replacement kits

We recommend not carrying out this task directly at the tank, even if it does not take long. Ideally, you will be prepared and have replacement kits in stock, which allow the replacement to be carried out in a few simple steps. The maintenance kits are designed in such a way that you do not have to install the “fresh” dehumidifierstraight away, but can store it first. To do this, you have to simply screw a protective cap onto the thread and use a sticker to seal the ventilation opening. This ensures that no air can enter into the breathers and saturate the desiccant before it is installed.

Of course it is also practical to keep filter elements for hydraulic oil processing in stock. Here as well, the clogging indicator of the filters should be checked regularly and the filter elements should be replaced in good time.
